About the event: The Athens Marathon is like no other on Earth. According to legend, it covers the same ground that the Athenian messenger Phiedippides ran when he brought news of victory from the battlefield of Marathon 2,500 years ago. When you run the Athens Marathon, you run in the very footsteps of the ancient gods and heros that gave birth to western civilization. The finish line is in Athens' magnificent Olympic Stadium, the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games. Those who run the Athens Marathon say it is an experience they'll never forget. The Athens Marathon is recognized as the original marathon course and it was the same course used in the 2004 Olympics held in Athens. OTHER: Your must be at least 18 years old to enter the Athens Marathon. There is no qualifying time. The course is open for 8 hours. The start of the race will be given at 09:30. The first half of the course is rather uphill, having some flat points on the way. It goes through one of the most central roads of Athens, that is Vas. Sofias Aveue. It goes by the National Gallery, the Hilton Hotel, the glass statue of the Runner, the Liberty Park, the Megaro Mousikis (Music Hall), and the USA Embassy. At the level of the Athens Tower, the course follows Mesogeion Avenue, and then Michalakopoulou Street for a few minutes.
