About the event:
Le tre gare competitive, 45 km e 24 km e 14 Km, partiranno dalla centrale Piazza del Popolo attraversando il centro storico. Usciranno attraverso Porta al Cassero, una delle 6 porte che permettevano l’accesso alla città, attigua alla trecentesca Fortezza, costruita nella parte più alta del paese medioevale.
Attraversando boschi, vigne, di Brunello di Montalcino, borghi e fattorie arriverà fino al Castello Banfi – Poggio alle Mura, il cui primo nucleo fu costruito già prima dell’anno 1000, imponente su un poggio strategico per il controllo della confluenza dei fiumi Orcia ed Ombrone.
Il percorso abbandona momentaneamente la Val d’Orcia, per salire verso il piccolo borgo medievale di Sant’ Angelo in Colle. Un altro affondo nella valle per poi risalire verso il Ventolaio (di nome e di fatto!) dove il percorso di Brunello Crossing 45 si ricongiunge con Brunello Crossing 24.
Una ripida discesa “il Patataio”, con affaccio mozzafiato sulla Val d’Orcia e sfondo del Monte Amiata, porta gli atleti ad attraversare un altro borgo medievale: Castelnuovo dell’Abate. Poche centinaia di metri e siamo all’Abbazia di Sant’Antimo, chiesa in stile romanico dove Carlo Magno di ritorno da Roma attraverso la Via Francigena, nel 781 avviò la costruzione del Monastero.
Lasciando alle spalle il complesso monastico, con un alternarsi continuo di boschi e vigne, si risale verso Il Cocco, uno dei punti più alti di tutto il percorso, dove si unirà anche la Brunello Crossing 14 per poi proseguire verso Montalcino entrando in paese attraverso un’altra vecchia porta di accesso alla città: Porta Cerbaia per percorrere la via principale fino all’arrivo in Piazza del Popolo.
